Does James Cameron and Ubisoft equal a great game?

Can a game based on a movie actually be good? There are some examples (very few) that say yes, but overwhelmingly the answer is ‘Hell No’. Still that doesn’t stop the attempts to cross market the projects.

One of the more promising of these movie-to-game scenarios is the recently announced Avatar. The good points are that this will be a James Cameron directed film, Sigourney Weaver is in the film, and WETA will be doing the effects (the handled effects for LoTR). So there is material to work with.

But will it be good? Hard to say. The film is planned for 2009 summer. So there is time. It’s a sci-fi film, and the game will be designed for at least the PS3 and/or Xbox 360. Oh, I did leave out one factor. Ubisoft is the developer. Feeling more confident?

Well now you know. What do you think. Are games based on movies worth it?
