Brett Favre Returns, and How I Feel About It
Submitted by Got Strength? Blog
Ok, so Brett Favre doesn’t care anything about my opinion. I understand that. However, since it’s my blog, I can say whatever I want. Don’t forget to support your American athletes in Beijing, either. Free speech is a big deal.
Ok, here’s the deal. I’m a Brett Favre fan. I like the Packers, and I like his style. The man can play and he will do whatever he needs to in order to win. I respect that. Nobody has ever questioned Favre’s will as a competitor.
As such, I can respect the fact that he felt that he wasn’t done and that he had to compete. I respect that, too. However, here’s the deal. Dude, you retired. You retired at the top of the game. Last year was a great year for you and the Packers. Maybe you should have stayed another year (this season) to give it another good run. But you didn’t. You left.
The Packers have been expecting your retirement for the last three or four seasons now, and you’ve always waited until the last possible minute to let them know. They’ve passed up on some great players because they’ve felt like they’ve had to draft QB prospects that ultimately end up sitting on the bench. Aaron Rodgers may not be the next Brett Favre, but nobody really knows because he hasn’t been playing.
And to whoever coached the 6 year-old to scream at “You suck! We hate you!” to Rodgers from the sideline during practice: F you, buddy. Way to teach a youngster about proper respect and sportsmanship. Remember that Tom Brady was decent at Michigan and drafted in the 6th round. Everybody wants to swing on his nuts, as they say. Rodgers has a better college pedigree than Brady did.
I’m saddened to see Brett in any jersey other than a Packers jersey. I just think the situation was handled poorly on both sides and if he insists on playing football then this is the way it had to be. I personally wish he’d stayed retired at the top of his game. Hopefully he at least has a good season or two with NY before retiring (again) instead of a couple of legacy tarnishing years.
