No doubt about it, our economy is not as healthy as it once was. Still, we in America enjoy a standard of living, even in the tough times, that we should be thankful for. As shown in this photo of an old-time country store, the variety and abundance of food and other products we have is amazing. (Click on photo to enlarge.) We are certainly blessed in North America with an abundance of natural resources to produce the things we need, and some would have us feel guilty for having as much as we do. However, as any student of geography knows, the other continents of the world are equally rich in natural resources, in some cases, more so. So why do we seem to be so much better off? The difference is the opportunity that freedom provides for innovators, thinkers, inventors, and entrepreneurs to make use of those resources in a way that benefits all of us. This Thanksgiving holiday, we can be thankful for the abundance we enjoy, and the freedom that makes it available to all.
