Where Do They Find These People?

I will admit that I have never seen the Real Housewives Of Atlanta on Bravo. Probably because my reality TV watching is limited to “educational” programs like Project Runway and The Amazing Race. Apparently this season of RHOA included a lady named Kim who wore a wig and was called out about it during the reunion show. And behold, the crying hot mess that is Kim talking about her wig.

I have so many things to say about this clip that I’m not even sure where I should start. First of all, us cancer survivors know first hand that no self respecting doctor would ever tell a patient that they are “90%” sure they have cancer. Second, this chick needs an Oscar because that is the best fake cry I have seen in a very long time. Third, and most important, SHE NEVER HAD CANCER. Kim was asked point blank later on in the show what type of cancer she had and she admitted that she never had cancer and the hair loss was related to something else that she “did not want to discuss”.

When did it become so cool to have cancer? I can honestly say that I have never once, not even when I was in treatment, pulled the cancer card and here this wackjob is waving the cancer card all over the place and she is not even a survivor. This is a perfect example of how people can take a cause and completely turn it into something cheap. For all we know she just has bad hair or got a bad haircut and wants to wear a wig. That’s all well and good but don’t then turn around and blame it on a disease that we are fighting just because it’s social acceptable for cancer fighters and survivors to wear a wig.

I really don’t care why she is wearing a wig. I really don’t even care that it’s a really bad wig. I care about the fact that this lady is claiming a journey that she’s never taken. She’s claiming survivorship when she never had to fight and she’s claiming to know the difficult and personal choice that many survivors have to make regarding a wig. So Kim, on behalf of all cancer survivors, I am revoking your cancer card. Don’t ever pull it again because all you do is embarrass yourself and anger the real survivors.
