Like most race fans I was subjected to the smell of burning rubber at the age of 5. And they say crack is addictive. This was a weekly ritual and I was hooked from the very first race. The roar of the engines the near misses on the figure eight track, the wrecks. What more could any 5 year old kid want.
Everyone has a hero, so they say. I was ask in a interview one time who my hero was. At that time I really did not know.
For the interviews sake I made one up but thanks to the Nascar Fanatic and the opportunity to write on Racing News Digest I found out who my real hero is, My uncle.
I watched him work on race cars I watched him win races. I have always liked to watch racing and like every kid and adult alike I wished I could drive the car. Listening to the races on the radio watching it on TV ( Back in the day it was on Wide World Of Sports). Then came the computer age, we could do all the same things on the computer. Then racing simulators came out and this was as close as some of us would ever get to real racing. After all it is about the comradery the competition the skill and the adrenalin of racing side by side. I rented and hosted my own race server for 4 years and had an absolute blast racing online. I made a ton of new friends, people from all over came to race. As time went on I went to more and more races and I found a new addiction, Tailgating.
Tailgating to me is about meeting new friends, sharing food and drink with old friends, watching Speed channel or a football game before or after the race. Some of the best food I have ever tasted was made while tailgating. At this point in my life I wanted to create a show to go track to track and bring the local flavor to you the tailgating fan. The website Tailgatingtrackside.com is a effort to build a fan base in hopes of someday being able do just that. Back in February 2008 I started a podcast that later developed in to Tailgating Internet Talk Show now hosted at Blog Talk Radio
