Ojon describes their two new hair care products as ‘A Tribal Hair Smoothing Ritual.’ I loved the sound of that as I read it on their fact sheet they sent me and I also loved the story they tell, which is right on the bottles, of how the Tawira natives skillfully extract the ‘tears’ of  the Tunu rubber tree which is why the natives call this tree, ‘the crying tree.’ The natural resource that is extracted from the bark of this Tunu tree is wildcrafted natural latex. Ojon’s formula for this smoothing duo combines a blend of wildcrafted Tunu and Swa extracts as well as Crambe Seed Oil.  Sounds pretty exotic, doesn’t it? They are also free of sulfates, silicon and color – another plus in my book. I was excited to give these products a try.

Products reviewed:

Tunu Elastik Hair Smoothing Cleanser,  $25.00 US
Tunu Elastik Hair Smoothing  Conditioner,  $27.00 US
Both are available at Sephora and QVC.

Number of times used on myself:  6

Number of times used on various clients at my salon:  6

Overall:  I was very pleased with how these products performed on both my hair and my clients’ hair.   The product label says it is for all hair types; straight, naturally curly or permed so I was curious to see how it would perform on my hair, which is fine and more straight than wavy.

Review:  I’m not one to like very many ‘fragrances’ unless they are derived from essential oils, but I have to say, when I first smelled the scent of this cleanser and conditioner, I rather liked it. It has a Sandalwood, vanilla, musk-like scent and this scent does stay with you throughout the day.  My clients at the salon found the scent pleasing as well.

The shampoo does not give a lot of lather, however when you rinse the product out, you can feel that your hair and scalp are clean. I’m very used to using products that are more natural so not having a lot of lather is fine with me. If I skipped a day without shampooing my hair (which I was able to do when using these products), then I shampooed twice. My hair felt clean and not stripped of any oils – a big plus!

I used the conditioner as well, leaving it on for a minute or two like the directions recommended. The conditioner also rinsed out clean and my hair felt thicker.

I styled my hair without any use of styling products such as a mousse or gel and I loved the way my hair came out every time I used these products.  My hair felt thick and full of volume. I tried these products on my clients who have coarser, wavier hair and I was very happy with the results. Their hair was shiny, smooth and still had some volume, which they liked as well.

Overall I think Ojon’s Tunu Elastik Hair Smoothing duo is worth the money. I sell similar priced products at my salon and I feel the quality of Tunu Elastik is comparable.  I feel these products work well to smooth coarse, wavy hair and also add body so if you have fine, limp hair and are looking for some extra volume, I would say try it. If you are one who has to have a ton of lather to think your hair and scalp are clean, then this shampoo and conditioner are not for you.  If you like to get two days out of your hair after you shampoo, like shiny, voluminous, smooth hair, then I’d say definitely go out and try this dynamic duo.
