Accuracy of Dog DNA Tests
Submitted by Animal Rights Blog
Rosalie and Leonard Sanchez adopted Ruby from a local shelter that told them she was a St. Bernard. The couple never believed it because the puppy didn’t look anything like a St. Bernard. Then in January they discovered the Canine Heritage Breed Test which uses DNA science to pinpoint the breeds in a mixed breed dog. They bought the at-home test, swabbed her cheek and mailed it off to the lab. These are the results they received:
“Your DNA analysis is right on, our puppy’s certificate says she is St. Bernard and Boxer! The information we were given was correct after all…We love the certificate you provided with our puppy’s picture” Rosalie and Leonard Sanchez

Rags never liked getting his picture taken but his sister, Peaches, pranced and posed like she was raised on the runway. Rags’ pet parent, Brenda Patrick, was very anxious to find out what breeds were in Rags (she already knew Peaches was a miniature poodle…as evidenced by the prancing) and she was having a hard time getting him to pose for a picture. Finally, she said, “Rags do you want to go home?” and that’s when the photographer got the shot.
Now this photo is permanently imbedded on the certificate that reveals Rag’s breed make up:
“We strongly support adopting shelter dogs. They make wonderful companion animals, and there are so many who need forever homes. We consider ourselves fortunate to have Rags and Peaches a part of our family.” Brenda Patrick

The Canine Heritage Breed Test makes dog DNA science simple. And who isn’t curious about what breeds make up their four legged furry friends? The test kit can be ordered through the website: www.caninheritage.com. In a few days you will receive the kit complete with instructions and a cheek swab that you run along the inside of the cheek of your mystery mutt. In 4 to 6 weeks you will have a certificate just like Ruby and Rags have!
