The same day that I talked about human rights, I heard San Francisco’s Mayor, Gavin Newsom, give a talk (hosted by the Long Now Foundation) on his environmental program in the City — especially the (weird?) program for congestion pricing of parking [MP3].

He is a very charismatic speaker with a brilliant control of the facts. I was amazed.

He is probably going to run for governor, and he’s going to be a strong contender.

Bottom Line: San Francisco will stop at nothing to beat Portland for the title of “greenest city,” and Newsom is playing a big role there.
