No one else should ever
see her hair coming out in wads,
should cough up bloody clots
or wither in sharp pains.
No one else should ever
be confined to his bed while sores
fester on his once strong body
or have to wheel an oxygen tank
from one room to the next
so that he can watch t.v.
No one else should ever see
youth stolen by too many white cells
or witness a third grader die
after covering her little bald head
with hats and scarves for months
while she can only watch others play.
If the devil has a name, it is
cancer and I think it is his turn
to die.
